YPIN is modelled on the Tönissteiner Kreis, its partner organization in Germany. The Group’s first annual meeting took place in 2003 under the auspices of the then Polish Minister for European Affairs Danuta Hübner (today member of the EU Parliament), and Gesine Schwan, the then President of the European University Viadrina.

Since its launch, YPIN has received over 800 applications for membership. A rigorous selection process has nominated over 400 candidates to take part in one of the 28 weekend-long recruitment seminars, from which 220 outstanding applicants have successfully joined YPIN.

Esteemed guests have contributed to the development of the network and its members. Amongst YPIN guest speakers have been Rüdiger Freiherr von Fritsch, German Ambassador to Poland, Werner Brinker, CEO of EWE AG and Jan Truszczyński, Director General, Education and Culture, European Commission, Prof. Jacej Purchla, Chairman to the International Cultural Centre (MCK) and Prof. Andrzej Białas, President of Polish Academy of Arts and Sciences (PAU).
